Feed in tariffs Checklist
Once you have your PV system installed, you must apply to receive the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT). As part of your installation you will have a generation meter installed. You MUST take readings from this meter and give them to your energy supplier.
Now that the order has been placed, we recommend that you contact your energy supplier (e.g. Scottish Power/Npower) and ask for an application form for the Feed-in-Tariff. We recommend you do this as soon as possible as it can sometimes take 2 – 3 weeks for your request to be processed. You will not be able to send your application form back to your supplier until your system has been fully installed and commissioned as you will also need to include a receipted invoice, a commissioning certificate and your MCS certificate.
After commissioning your system, Absolute Solar and Wind Ltd will register your system with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and a digital certificate will be emailed to you. This certificate contains information about your system including your new generation meter number, estimated annual output, capacity of generating system and the meter reading on the date of commissioning. Once your final payment has been processed, we will also send out your receipted invoice and commissioning certificate so that you can include these with your FiT application.
When contacting your energy supplier, if you ask to speak to someone about the Feed-in-Tariff you will usually be directed to the correct department. If you are having any trouble getting through to the correct department call us (Absolute Solar and Wind, 0141 530 7644) and we will try to help. If you are having any trouble when filling out the application form please call us.
After applying you should be sent a FiT account form which includes the following:
- Your address
- Meter reading form and declaration
- Generation Tariff Unit Rate (e.g. 21p)
- Export Tariff Unit rate (e.g. 3.1p)
- Start Date: (e.g. 1/4/2010)
- Finish Date: (e.g. 31/3/2035 - this is your 25yr contract)
We urge you to check with your supplier what their payment terms are.
More from us
After we have commissioned your system we will send you an operation and maintenance (O&M) manual that includes information about the equipment that has been installed at your property and some guidelines on maintenance and troubleshooting. Included with this pack will be a schematic diagram of the system. This schematic is often produced after the installation has been completed and should be mounted by the inverter and the consumer unit (if these are in different locations). Please check this is in place. This diagram is designed to be used by anyone that is working on your electrical equipment; it includes system start-up and shut-down procedures and contact details for Absolute Solar and Wind Limited.
We will also send a notification to the District Network Operator (DNO) e.g. Scottish Power or SSE for your area to register that your system has been connected to the national grid and complies with all local regulations. This is not related to the FiT application.
We look forward to hearing from you with the output and savings your system will generate.
